How are you different from other eye clinics and larger chains?
Paul is the actual owner and optometrist so he can focus on providing excellent customer service and using the latest, best lenses on the market. He has low overheads and that means he can provide all his products and services at an excellent price.
Chain store mangers unfortunately usually see you as a sale, rather than a valuable customer and usually have inflated prices to pay for there high overheads.
How often should I get my eyes examined?
Even if you have no eye problems, you should still get your eyesight tested every two years for early detection and prevention of common eye disease. General health problem such as diabetes and hypertension can also often be detected by looking at the blood vessels behind you eyes.
You should of course be tested more often if you or your family have a history of eye disease such as glaucoma.
Do I need to take any precautions before coming in for an eye examination?
The optometrist will sometimes have to put drops in your eyes that dilate your pupil and give you slightly blurred vision for 3-4 hours. You will be advised before hand if this is necessary so you can bring a driver with you.
What about after the examination?
Again, if the optometrist has used dilating eye drops then you would be more comfortable wearing sunglasses afterwards.
How much do you charge for a consult?
We bulk bill all our eye examinations to Medicare.
How long does a consult generally take?
About 20 – 30 minutes.
What qualifications does Paul Lagos hold?
Paul has a bachelor of Applied Science in Optometry and a Graduate Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics, both from the Queensland University of technology.
How do you check children’s eyes?
We have special eye charts with pictures and shapes on them for testing children’s eyes- they do surprisingly well!
Can you test baby’s eyes? How?
Yes, an optometrist can test a baby’s eyes by using eye drops and an instrument called a Retinoscope to bounce light off the baby’s eyes to detect any need for spectacles.
Do I need to bring my old glasses or contact lenses with me?
Yes, that is always a good idea so we can see if your eyesight has changed or not.
